Space Engineers

SERVER ACCESS

The server IS open to everyone and anyone, however, we do host “seasons” with specific goals, rules, etc… Because of that we like to know who we are playing with so we can keep communication lines open, and we can keep folks playing in the spirit of the current season! With that in mind, we have set up a server whitelist, which you can apply to HERE. Be sure to stop by the DISCORD SERVER as well, and reach out to one of the admins in the Space Engineers section. You will also need the servers IP address in order to connect. This can be found in the pins of the Space Engineers section of the same DISCORD SERVER linked just above!

Space Engineers Restart Timer

SEASONS

The SG server runs in seasons. Each has a specific goal, set of house rules, and series of rewards. Some servers even chain together to create an overarching story! Season start and end dates are communicated in Discord, so join the server fi you have not already! If you need info on the current seasons goals, house rules, rewards, etc… you can find those in game on Sanctuary Station. Just respawn at Sanctuary (make sure you join the SG faction) and check out the various LCD screens there!

Sanctuary also has some additional info on a few of the fun mods and scripts that are in use, along with links to their various steam pages. If you have any ideas on how to improve Sanctuary, please reach out to Godimas in Discord!

ADMINS

If you get stuck and need a hand, head over to the Discord server locate the Space Engineers section, and ask for Godimas or Jaxar. They should be able to get you sorted!

FUNDING

Nothing in life is free, including server hosting! The lights are kept on here by you fine folks via Patreon. If you have already signed up, thank you very much! If you have not, then please consider it! All donations are sent to Godimas, who then looks after the bills. Please reach out to him if you want to know more!

SERVER HEALTH AND BEST PRACTICES

General Info

We have a decently powerful server, but Space Engineers is still Space Engineers, so we do still need to look after it. Super large grids, or just a lot of grids in a single area will cause slowdown. The server will auto clean up garbage as best as it can, but we all still need to do our parts! Keep the following best practices in the back of your brain when playing or building to keep the game fun for everyone!

    • Turn off your projectors when not in use
    • Convert your ships to stations when not flying them OR put them in your quantum hanger when not in use
    • Turn OFF welders and grinders when they are not in use
    • All vehicles MUST be maglocked to a voxel or static grid when parked
    • If you have pistons or hinges on your grid, make sure you are using blast door blocks around your moving parts so those parts have enough space to move freely!

Server Restarts

Server restarts happen every 4 hours. You will see notifications in chat before they happen, so you have a heads up. Our server provider restarts the game for us, so we are unable to lean into the games built in save/restart system. The game DOES autosave every 5 minutes. It is recommended that you get into a bed or cryopod 5 minutes prior to a restart just to be sure everything saves correctly. You will be encouraged to do this 5 minutes prior to the server restart! Every time the server does a restart, it also does a fairly agressave cleanup. Details on that below!

SERVER TOOLS

Our server uses the TORCH API, which grants us access to a number of different tools and configurations. Some are back end only, and sum are accessable and usable by everyone. Below are the tools you can use, links to their home pages, descriptions of what they are, and some of the important commands you will need to access them!

Fix Ship

If you ever have a grid behaving strangely, use this. It will cut and paste the grid, and kind of “refresh” it. This will correct most issues, and is exactly what an Admin would do if you reached out to one for help

Command List

!fixship
!fixship [ship name]

Quantum Hanger

The hanger is a way for you to store ships you are not actively using in the “cloud”. We encourage you to take a blueprint before using this just incase. When you use it, your grid will be saved in a file on the server, and will be deleted from the world. When you recall your ship, the hanger will paste it back into the world more or less where it was when you put it in the hanger initially.

This saves server resources, and reduces lag if you are in an area with a lot of grids. Please use it often!

Command List

!hangar save
!hangar list
!hangar load [Name or ID number]
!hangar info [Name or ID number]

– IMPORTANT –

If you do not log in for more then 15 days, any vehicles you own will be auto stored in the quantum hanger.
You can get them out next time you log in!

Mod List Builder

Ever wonder what mods are being used on the server, or just on a specific grid? Look at the grid, and type in one of the commands to find out!

Command List

/GetMods
/GetGridMods
/GetModIdList

Auto Cleanup

During Play

Every half hour, the robot vacuums will to a quick cleanup! Keep an eye out in chat for a 5 minute warning. It is recommended that you LAND YOUR SHIP prior to the cleanup!

Server Start

A very aggressive cleanup happens every time the server restarts. This will remove any grids belonging to factions that are NOT essential to the current season, which are more then 10k away from players. So if you are mid battle, your battle should still be raging when you get back!

Multigrid Projectors

We have the exceptionally handy Multigrid Projection Torch plugin installed on the server. This does exactly what you think it should, HOWEVER, it only works if you have the SPACE ENGINEERS LAUNCHER installed. Instructions on how to do that can be found on the above linked Steam page, or on the also linked Launcher page. Other then that, all you do is launch Space Engineers via the Launcher, lead a grid on a projector, and weld away!

Profiler

This is an admin tool that can be used to help find the causes of server performance drops. It can also help locate laggy grids, or grids that are having a physics crisis. If an admin sits in a seat on a specific grid, they can even dive into the individual grids blocks, and see if there are any laggy blocks or block groups. This is an EXTREMELY useful tool for keeping our server healthy. Admins can find the profilers docs HERE

MODS

We make use of quite a few, and they do change from season to season. There is a mod collection you can subscribe to HERE that we do our best to keep up to date with the current season. We also have our own MOD with a bunch of SG themed images, sounds, and faction icons. All items in the SG mod are tagged with [SG] (as seen below) for easy navigation.

Help yourself, and if you want anything added for your personal builds, reach out to Godimas in DISCORD. Provided you are just looking for an image or sound, we should be able to accomadate you!
